This year’s competition has the following highlights:

1.      100% Industry Needs

The design topics for the competition are all derived from actual projects and research from 50 organizations which are current needs in society and industry. Our aim is to turn all finalist entries into practical marketable and manufacturable products.

2.      Creating an Effective Communication Platform

We will provide multiple communication platforms that link various stakeholders, including businesses in manufacturing, IT industries, venture capitalists, charity foundations, design schools, government, juries and designers. Mixing professional thinking and creativity from grassroots, solving design needs for companies and also a place to discover new talents, brand promotion and integrate design resources.

3.      Innovative Incubation Service

A fundamental change between ‘judging’ and ‘service’, differentiating traditional competitions that merely focuses on judging results.  We are dedicated to plan more interaction links between ‘Contestant – Enterprise – Jury’. The competition will organize a strong service team to give in depth design feedback for finalists, provide professional guidance for incubation entries, give model making funds and participate in a 7 day start up workshop. Most importantly, we have invited 10 venture capitalists (VC) and professional incubation organizations to give assessment to finalist entries to help contestants realize their dreams!

4.      Powerful International Resources

To ensure the quality of entries and the creditability of judging results, the competition will be accredited by The International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID). Invited juries will be from the committee of ICSID and iF jury. A powerful International Higher Education Innovation Alliance will guarantee the quality of competition entries and create an opportunity for corporations to discover excellent design works and talents.

This year’s partner country will be the UK and the competition will also establish work stations in countries such as Italy, USA, Korea, and Sweden to call for outstanding design work.

5.      Public Participation and Variety of Awards

All good concepts deserve to be recognized and everyone can express their creativity regardless of who they are. There would be no limits on creative expression: one idea, one sketch may earn an award. The competition will provide 200 awards totalling to 1 million RMB (approx. USD$161290 / €116279). The award may be a cheque, a design trip to Italy, a dream job or internship, a start-up opportunity – everything is possible!

6.      Strong Marketing Campaigns and Publicity

The media collaborators for this year’s competition include Design boom, Tencent, Baidu, Chinadaily, Hunan TV, ChinaVisual, DesignOnLine, RedNet and other cross-media resources to ensure involved companies will receive positive publicity, branding support and create social influences. Winning entries will have their works exhibited at international design events such as the World Expo 2015, Milan Design Week and 100% Design London.
