On 27 March, the planning group of the 4th ‘LotusPrize’ International Industrial Design and Innovation Competition 2014 was invited to the ChinaBang Awards 2014. The 4th ‘LotusPrize’ International Industrial Design and Innovation Competition 2014 has officially launched at this event for young entrepreneurs with significant support from elites in the science, media, entertainment and design industry.

Founded by TechCrunch, the ChinaBang Awards invited former CEO of Alibaba Porter, President  ofLightInTheBox Wen Xin, CEO of GuokrJiShisan and Dean of Hunan University School of Design He Renke for start-up and innovation trends seminars, attracting over 300 innovation professionals from around the nation. As the partner of the 4th ‘LotusPrize International Industrial Design and Innovation Competition 2014, the founder of TechCrunch and event host announced the launch of the 4th ‘LotusPrize International Industrial Design and Innovation Competition 2014.

Prof He. Renke, Dean of Hunan University School of Design and also one of the main organizer for the ‘LotusPrize’ Competition made a prospective speech on ‘Good Design=Good Business’ has made an impact on the power of design at the internet event. It has highlighted the competition’s main aim – the integration of design and technology and the merging of innovation and creativity, wishing to produce more excellent products when technology companies collaborate with design resources.

The theme of the 4th ‘LotusPrize’ International Industrial Design and Innovation Competition 2014 is ‘Design Driven Industrial Convergence’, which focuses on the integration and innovation of the industrial chain, the merging of the manufacturing industry with IT industry and the integration of social innovation and industrial innovation. As an event that closely works with science and design, this is the first time to propose the perspective of the close integration of design innovation and IT innovation. The competition itself will also use IT platform and language to achieve the innovation process.

The design topics for the competition are all derived from actual needs of companies and organizations and the awards for the winners will also be given out by the companies. The competition committee will specially invite 10 venture capitalists (VC) and professional incubation organizations to give assessment to selected entries, letting the contestants realize their dreams. The competition also has strong international collaborations, inviting board members of International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID) andiF jury as the jury panel and have support from more than 10 higher educations from England such as the Royal College of Art. The competition will create more than 200 winners, with prizes worth more than 1 million RMB. Prizes include a design trip to Italy, internship or job opportunities with companies and selected winners have the chance to have their works exhibited at the 2015 World Expo, Milan Design Week and 100% London.
