Benny graduated at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Royal College of Art and was involved in many product research and development projects for Philips, HP, Alessi, Eckart+Barski, Huawei and Cuckoo etc. Returning to Hong Kong in 1994, he has been a professor at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University School of Design and director of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University Lifestyle Design Research Lab.

His main research area involves sustainable design, modern design thinking and the application of reviving Chinese culture. He has participated in many international sustainable design groups including China Sustainable Industrial Development Network and International Promotion of Sustainable Design Group etc.
